HELP BABY SLEEP BY CREATING THE BEST SLEEP ENVIRONMENT

HELP BABY SLEEP BY CREATING THE BEST SLEEP ENVIRONMENT

NOISE

Whilst we can often be disturbed by loud ambient noises as we sleep, it is much harder to wake a baby or toddler once they are asleep. Similarly, if you are worried about living on a noisy street that has continual noise throughout the night, the chances are your little one will become accustomed to them just as you have, and often these noises can be soothing for babies.

TEMPERATURE

The ideal bedroom temperature to help baby sleep is around 18ºC (64ºF), which is generally a little cooler than the rest of the house. If the house is too warm, babies can often find it more difficult to settle. As young babies cannot regulate their body temperature, you should also avoid bedclothes and blankets during warmer times of the year, as these tend to maximise heat retention. In the summer, your little one might not need any bedclothes other than a sheet.

If you are worried about how warm your little one is during the night, the best way to check is to feel their tummy or the back of their neck.

LIGHT

In order to help baby sleep better, it is important that they get used to sleeping in both the light and dark. This will help them maintain a good sleep schedule in summer when we experience longer hours of daylight as well as getting themselves back to sleep when they rouse in the night. For more top tips on the changing seasons read our blog.

When it comes to their sleep schedule, it is best to let little ones adjust to the natural seasonal light or dark, rather than trying to stick to set times all year round. However, if baby is resisting sleep or waking early, blackout curtains can help baby sleep and maintain good light conditions. Creating a dark atmosphere in their nursery can also play an important role in instilling a sleep time routine, as baby will begin to associate the darker environment in their crib with time to sleep.

At around 6 months, it is common for little ones to experience a period of unquiet sleeping that is often caused by separation anxiety. In this case, a soft low-intensity nightlight can help reassure them when they wake.

To help baby sleep, Chicco’s range of sleep aids are designed to activate whenever baby cries, featuring soft light and calming sounds and lullabies to reassure them when they wake.
