The magical moment of breastfeeding

Breastfeeding offers countless advantages and benefits, not only from a nutritional point of view, but also from a psycho-physical perspective, as well as in terms of the relationship between mother and baby. Let's look at why.

1. It's the best food for baby

Breast milk is the best food for newborns because it contains all the nutrients required to fully satisfy all of the nutritional needs of infants aged up to 6 months, ensuring proper growth and better protection against infections.

2. Strength for mother and child

The benefits of breastfeeding are numerous for both, short and long term: the cells, hormones and antibodies in breast milk help babies to build a defence against certain illnesses, while mothers who breastfeed have a lower risk of developing certain diseases.

3. It's always ready, available and safe

Breast milk is free, is always at the ideal temperature, and is perfectly digestible for baby, and it is extremely convenient for mum. It is safe from contamination and there are no risks associated with preparation, making it totally safe for little ones

4. It brings mother and baby closer, and evokes a sense of well-being in both

Breastfeeding is much more than simply a means of satisfying one of baby's primary physiological needs: it is also a moment of connection between mother and baby, full of emotions and sensations. Fulfilling this need provides both with a profound sense of well-being and tranquillity, and gives mothers a sense of gratification, making them feel that they are essential to the growth and development of their little one.

All of these advantages and benefits have led the World Health Organization (WHO) to recommend breastfeeding for at least the first six months of baby's life, and mothers are encouraged to keep breast milk as the main source of nourishment until the first year of life and beyond, whilst gradually introducing other foods.
